Book in Buenos Aires Analyzes the Crisis of Progressivism in Latin America

Buenos Aires, March 25 (NA) – The book 'Reimagining Futures from Latin America' brings together a wide range of leaders, academics, and intellectuals to analyze the crisis of progressivism and outline alternatives to the advance of right-wing forces in the region. Spanning 456 pages, the work is coordinated by René Ramírez, Emir Sader, Álvaro García Linera, and Nicolás Malinovsky. The text begins with a critical diagnosis of the current Latin American situation, marked, according to its authors, by the exhaustion of the neoliberal model and a 'second wave' of progressivism that is more defensive than transformative. In this context, it warns that the lack of structural reforms and political moderation have generated social discontent, which has been capitalized on by far-right forces that exploit the economic crisis and precarious working conditions. Among the notable contributions are the interventions of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Rafael Correa, and Axel Kicillof, who address the impact of 'lawfare' in the region. They argue that economic and media power sectors use the judicial system to persecute popular leaders and condition democratic processes. The book also examines the transformations of contemporary capitalism, characterized by financialization and the expansion of digital platforms. Within this framework, it warns about the consolidation of new technological elites and the growth of informal work under forms associated with entrepreneurship, which weaken collective organization. Throughout its chapters, lines of action are proposed, such as building a sovereign regional bloc, democratizing judicial systems, and promoting a 'society of care' to confront structural inequalities. With a critical and programmatic focus, the publication positions itself as an intervention in the debate on the direction of the left in a global scenario marked by political, economic, and social tensions.
